STEEL LINE for the future and internationell connections
A condensed compilation of what stands for the EU's future development!
In the EU's document from 1 December 2022 it is stated that" The Commission's communication "The European Green Deal"6 from December 2019 sets an overall climate neutrality target that the Union must achieve by 2050 at the latest and a clear overall target to reduce net greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55 % until 2030”.
It is now estimated that "rail freight traffic should increase its market share by 50% by 2030 and double by 2050, inland waterway transport and short sea shipping should increase its market share by 25% by 2030 and by 50% by 2050 , high-speed rail traffic should double by 2030 and triple by 2050”.
Now, as the Swedish government is doing, shutting down the high-speed trains goes against what the EU's decided infrastructure plan TEN-T. It says that the big cities in the Nordics will be connected by high-speed trains, Helsinki, Copenhagen and Stockholm, .
It further states: "The planning, development and operation of the trans-European transport network should enable sustainable modes of transport, improve multimodal and interoperable transport solutions and increase the intermodal integration of the entire logistics chain, thereby contributing to a smoothly functioning internal market by creating the transport routes required for smooth passenger and freight transport flows throughout the Union”.
Furthermore, it reads "The trans-European transport network should be developed gradually in three stages with the overall aim of realizing a multimodal and interoperable EU-wide network with high quality standards, while respecting the Union's overall objectives of climate neutrality and the environment: a completed core network by 2030; a completed extended core network by 2040 and a completed comprehensive network by 2050”.
It also states that all goods must be transferred to rail and shipping. The Swedish government is going in the opposite direction . "The European transport corridors should become tools for developing sustainable and multimodal freight and passenger transport flows in Europe, interoperable, high-quality infrastructure and high operational performance. In this way, they should also be a tool to realise the vision of creating a highly competitive railway network throughout the Union”. WHAT IS SWEDEN DOING, CLOSING THE RAILWAY!
It also says "Member States should ensure that the national transport and investment plans comply with the priorities established in this regulation". The Swedish government does not care about this at all, it is on a collision course straight away.
"In order to lead to resource-efficient multimodal transport and contribute to cohesion through improved territorial cooperation, the European transport corridors shall focus on the following: a) Integration of transport modes, with a particular focus on strengthening the most environmentally friendly modes of transport, i.e. rail, inland waterways and short sea shipping”
“A more sustainable, resilient and reliable freight rail network across Europe should be established to contribute to the competitiveness of combined transport. The infrastructure of combined rail transport, including its terminals, should be upgraded to ensure that intermodal transport takes place mainly by rail, inland waterways or short sea shipping and that any initial and/or final stages carried out by road are as short as possible”
Then it says that towns with more than 100,000 inhabitants must have an intermodal terminal for goods and passenger transport ready by 2027. Then it's time to hurry. What does the government want to do? Invest more in the road network, which is run down. Who have run down the road network. The trucks. Now they are both longer at 34.5 meters and heavier, which causes even more road wear. Even more extensive investments in the road network.
Then they go to the electrical development, which the car manufacturers deceive them with, which with today's technology on the batteries cannot meet the technical requirements required. Batteries become abnormally heavy. Then the range is shortened so that a truck can be driven for 3 or 4 hours before charging is required.
Totally unacceptable from a logistical and financial perspective.
Then there is talk of aviation (the infrastructure minister) becoming the only prevailing means of transport for passenger transport. It is not possible with the energy density found in batteries today, and for the foreseeable future. They are now talking about airplanes with 50 passengers, electrically powered and with a range of 250 km to be available by 2030. It is stated in the EU document that flight lines of 500 km (the short-haul flight) are to be shut down and replaced by high-speed trains. The market does not exist for these miscarriages of flight. The government on a collision course again.
